Corporate Responsibility
Carlisle Security recognises that it has corporate responsibility obligations to its investors, clients, staff, suppliers and also to the wider community. We believe that our corporate responsibility extends to encompass both environmental and social responsibility.
It is clear to us that every aspect of our business has an impact, either positive or negative and that it is our duty to maximise the positive and to minimise the negative. In order to do so we have defined which impacts we have direct control over and those over which we do not have control, but can exercise positive influence, Our main effort is focused on where we have direct control, and thus are able to have the greatest possible positive impact.
The business operates with strict financial controls in place; with well defined levels of financial authorisation together with regular and detailed financial reporting as a part of our internal financial control procedures. We are subject to both internal and external audit.
As a Security Industry Authority Approved Contractor we are subject to external audit both in respect of our security operations and our internal administrative procedures.
We have introduced a set of Behavioural Standards, formulated by our staff, not imposed on them, which applicable to all relationships within the business. Respect for others and dignity at work are key elements of these Standards. We have developed this further and now diversity and disability awareness training is standard across our major contracts. We will continue to extend this training until, with client agreement, it becomes standard across our entire portfolio of contracts.
Although security services have a relatively low environmental impact, Carlisle Security has taken successful steps to reduce the carbon footprint of the business. Throughout 2006 and 2007 we replaced diesel vehicles with dual fuel hybrid vehicles. In 2008 we started replacing normal road vehicles with electric/petrol hybrids. We have already introduced electric patrol vehicles where these do not operate on public roads. A policy of “Reuse, Reduce, Recycle” operates across all our operations.
We are placing greater emphasis than ever on ensuring that where we have direct control, our supplies are ethically sourced and we are using our influence on our suppliers to do the same. Our aim is to have a verifiable, 100% ethical, supply chain.
In the north of England our Safety Awareness programme in schools which is intended to teach children about the dangers of playing on or near railways, has proven to be a success. We hope to develop this important activity further, and to offer it to a wider audience elsewhere in the UK.
By keeping corporate responsibility high on our agenda, and by encouraging every employee to take our corporate responsibilities in account on a day-to-day basis, Carlisle Security will continue to be an exemplar of corporate responsibility and recognised as a good supplier, a good employer and a good neighbour.
